Family[]
He was the son of Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond and Margaret Beaufort.
Marriage and Issue[]
In 1486, he married Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV of England and sister to the late Edward V of England. With Elizabeth, he had eight children; Arthur, Margaret, Henry, Elizabeth, Mary, Edward, Edmund, and Katherine.
Early Life[]
Henry was born in 1457 at Pembroke Castle to Edmund Tudor and Margaret Beaufort. Henry grew up with his mother in the household of William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke until 1469 when Herbert was executed and Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, re-established Henry VI as King of England. Henry's uncle, Jasper Tudor, Duke of Bedford, brought him to court.
In 1471, Edward IV regained the throne and Henry was forced to flee to Brittany where he was taken care of by Francis II, Duke of Brittany.
For five years, he was under protection, but Francis fell ill in November 1476, and his advisors negotiated with Edward IV and handed Henry over to the King. Henry pretended to be ill and escaped into a nearby monastery.
Edward IV ordered the extraction and execution of Henry, but by then, Francis had recovered and rescued him before he could be captured.
